Advanced control system for reverse osmosis optimization in water reuse systems

A main reverse osmosis (RO) limitation is the operational costs (including energy filtration costs), which are significantly affected by and expense of membrane maintenance. Both influent characteristics, including feedwater temperatures (T), electrical conductivity (EC), recovery set points. fuzzy logic advanced control system optimizes RO considering EC T as input values, setpoint a action. Verification results show that, once calibrated, simulation can save more than one million euros per year in large facilities (>30.000m 3 ·day -1 ). Which represents reduction 0.11€·m -3 treated water. • The for optimization uses inference system. Temperature determine optimal set-point. proposes maximum water at lower cost. minimises inorganic fouling potential through use Ca (PO 4 ) 2 stability index.
